Spatial Planning
The undergraduate program offers an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science in Spatial Planning Major, designed to prepare students for careers in both the public and private sectors. The subjects in the major teach students the ways in which the tools of sustainable environment, economics, policy analysis, regional planning, urban planning, and design can be brought to bear on critical social and environmental problems in local, regional, and international areas.
Students learn the special skills and responsibilities of planners who seek to promote efficient and equitable change. Students pursue the following tracks: urban and environmental policy and planning; urban society, urban and regional public policy, and GIS mapping.
The Department offers a five-year Joint University of Duhok / TU Dortmund certificate as Bachelor of Science in Spatial Planning. The graduate will bear the title of Spatial Planning Engineer for professional practice. The study includes a minimum of six weeks summer school to Dortmund-Germany as part of the study requirements. Study Payments are $2800/year for 4 years and 5th year is free.
About the Program
What is Spatial Planning
Spatial planning is an interdisciplinary field in the engineering and social sciences that deals with the spatial arrangement and development of living, working and environmental conditions at a wide range of spatial levels. The different spatial levels range from the built environment and residential quarters to the urban district, the city as a whole, the region, the state and even the international levels.
THE PROGRAM
The "Spatial Planning" Joint B.Sc. program was established in 2012. As part of the joint program, professors from TU Dortmund are teaching and providing thesis supervision to students. The program has a shared Module Manuel, Joint Exam Regulations and the “Joint Certificate" in Bachelor of Science in Spatial Planning.
Summer School in Germany
As part of the program, 6th Academic semester students (from the 3rd stage) are accompanied by supervisors to attend the Summer Program studying "the Planning System in Germany" for 4-6 weeks in Germany.

Tuition Fees
$2800 per year (the 5th year is FREE). Discounts will be applied accordingly:
- 25% for students with 12th grade average of 80% and above.
- 15% for students with 12th grade average between 75% and 80%.
Duration & Acceptance
- Study Duration: 5 years: 1st year is the preparatory year for English language. If the applicant has an English level of 70 in TOEFL IBT, or what is equivalent, they can skip the English preparatory year.
- Program Contents: Organised according to the Bologna process and it has 24 Modules (240 credit points).
- Acceptance Criteria: Minimum accepted 12th grade Average: 70%, with the total grades of English and Math being no less than 140.
