Regional Planning Studio Final Presentation
On Thursday, June 11, 2026, the final presentation for the Regional Planning Studio of the Spatial Planning Department was successfully concluded.
The course was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Mohammed Alaulddin Aqiqi and Mr. Aland Kamal Othman. We were also honored to welcome guest lecturer from the Directorate of Urban Planning in Duhok Governorate, Mr. Ehsan Sadiq Muhsin.
This semester’s studio challenged students to explore three regions within Duhok governorate and look beyond localized urban cores and engage with large-scale development, cross-boundary infrastructure networks, and the reduction of spatial inequalities between urban and rural settlements.
During their final presentations, the student groups conducted spatial assessment of demographic, economic, social, and environmental layers, explored transport corridors, agricultural productivity, empirical findings, and spatial proposals, discovering the area's unique administrative history and geography, and mapping out different development paths for their assigned case studies:
- The Zakho Group, Integrated Regional Development Plan on The Region of Zakho.
- The Sumel Group, Transforming Sumel City Center into a Sustainable Regional Connector Hub.
- The Fayda Group, Regional Linkages, Infrastructure, and Sustainable Development in Fayda.
We sincerely appreciate the dedication and effort demonstrated by our students throughout this course and congratulate them on successfully completing this project.
